Dr. Hydo completed a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Master of Social Work with the University of Utah, a Master of Business Administration with Texas A&M University, and a Doctor of Social Work with an emphasis in advanced clinical practice with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Dr. Hydo has completed specialized training to evaluate and treat perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMAD), trauma and abuse, domestic violence, addictions, and substance use disorders. Modality specific training includes: Brianspotting, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Psychological First Aid (PFA), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Sand Tray therapy, and Gottman couples therapy. He provides onsite critical incident stress management services for several employer assistance programs (EAP), and also conducts various types of employer and court evaluations including: criminal, domestic violence, substance use, mental health, fitness for employment, disability, and emotional support animals.
Early in his career, Dr. Hydo worked with the rape recovery center (SLC) as an outreach educator, and spent more than 7 years within in-patient settings including adolescent residential treatment centers and adult psychiatric behavioral units. He has extensive experience working as a crisis therapist for a regional network of hospitals providing crisis evaluations and treatment for individuals presenting with acute psychotic, mood and addiction-based disorders. Since 2013, Dr. Hydo has worked as an ownership partner and therapist within several private and group practices. He has provided supervision to many provisionally licensed and graduate therapist interns including: psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors.
Dr. Hydo met his wife during his first semester of graduate school at the University of Utah. Together they are the proud parents of two chatty and inquisitive daughters and an energetic son. His hobbies include spending quality time with his family in the mountains, site seeing God's Country in his vintage RV, and spending time exploring his Hawaiian roots with his family on the islands.
Additionally, Dr. Hydo can be found most days recreationally trading the financial markets. Prior to entering the field of mental health, Dr. Hydo completed coursework and licensure as an insurance agent, mortgage officer, stockbroker, and investment advisor representative where he provided sundry planning and financial services to Utah families and companies for a decade. His passion for financial literacy and the financial markets are well known among students, friends and colleagues.
